Fresno / Clovis Bathroom Remodeling Tips

October 3, 2012

Like any major remodeling project in the home, a bathroom remodel can be a big undertaking. All remodeling projects are most likely to be successful and pain-free when a homeowner who is willing to dedicate time and care to the remodeling process accompanies them. Through planning, being aware of what you’re working with, and working with professionals, you can engage in the remodeling process in a way that ultimately sets you up for success.

The most important part of the process of a bathroom remodel is the first part: planning. Although the bathroom is a relatively small space when compared to the rest of the home, a remodel of it is actually one of the more complicated projects that one can take on. Therefore, learning as you go or even figuring out what you want to do as you go will not likely end well in a bathroom remodeling process. Before the process has actually started, you should have a solid layout of what the end result will look like. Going in without a real plan often results in poor spacing, discontentment, and more time and money spent doing the project over again.

Along with your plan, you must also have a budget. Winging your way through a budget will almost always result in overspending, frustration, and dissatisfaction with the end result of the project. It’s usually a good idea to begin with the number that you are willing to spend, and then really do a lot of research on what types of fixtures, etc. you are going to be able to afford within that budget.

A bathroom remodel will almost always involve the purchase of new fixtures, such as toilets, sinks, bathtubs, and shower stalls. When you are considering purchasing such items, unless you are an expert in any of them, it’s a very good idea to do a little market research. Know what the prices for various items are, what they are made of, and what type of warranty is offered. Although it is easy to purchase the first thing you see, it is worthwhile to spend a lot of time doing research so as to find the best product you can at the best price.

If you are not a contractor yourself, it may not be a good idea to attempt to do a bathroom remodel on your own. In this case, it is actually well worth your time to hire a contractor from the beginning. If you start the project and don’t end up being able to finish it because you are not qualified, you will have wasted a lot of time and you will have likely done most things improperly. Then, when a contractor does come in, he or she will just have to spend time fixing what you’ve done. With matters of remodeling the home, if you aren’t qualified, it’s best to leave your ego at the door and find someone who is qualified to do the job.
